Mandate: Up-keeping and Maintenance of IT Infrastructure of HFRI

Thrust Area:

·         To extend available technology to institutional users that help to generate, store and communicate information.

·         To provide interconnectivity through Local Area Network (LAN) and uninterrupted browsing through World Wide Web.

·         Maintenance and up-keeping of IT equipments/ infrastructure and conference facilities.

·         To provide proper resolution to the IT related problems.

·         To update the institutional website regularly and disseminate various research/extension related information to the end users

Role/ functions:

Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Shimla is equipped with 54 Pentium –IV computers. All the computers are fully equipped with the essential peripherals required for day to day use. These computers are inter-connected through Local Area Network (LAN). Internet connectivity has been provided through a lease-line of 100 mbps, which enables every user for fast and uninterrupted browsing. Divison also has MPLS-VPN facility for videoconferencing, centralized antivirus services.
HFRI has installed a rental EPABX exchange having capacity of 70 nodes through BSNL for communication purposes within its official cum residential complex. Recently a new Geographical Information System (GIS) Lab has also been established for geo-referencing of forestry related records of institute on the topographical sheets. IT Division also maintains and updates the institutional website from time to time for dissemination of information to various stakeholders through e-Governance.
This Division also assist in execution of various modules of Indian Forestry Research Information System (IFRIS) – An e-Governance project implemented by the IT Division, ICFRE Dehradun. These modules of IFRIS facilitates users for applying leave, generating pay slips, uploading/ updating various research projects, online publications etc. Following seven modules are being regularly used at HFRI Shimla.

1. PIMS-Personnel Information Management System harbor personnel records of the employee. It facilitates online processing of applying/ sanction of all types of   leaves besides generating employee salary slip and access to ACRs an employee.
2. FAS-Financial Accounting System is meant for keying-in account related information and generating various cash related reports.
3. PMS- Pay Roll Management System maintains pay record of all the employees and gives facility to update in module. Consequent upon approval of the pay bill from the competent authority, employees may generate their salary slips on month ending.
4. RIMS- Research Information Management System is meant to upload concept note, research project, their online approval from competent authority and generation of project reports.
5. On line Public Information System: facilitates the uploading and access to the publications of the Institute.
6. FEMS- Forestry Research Extension and Management System in which extension work of Institute may be entered and monitored.
7. EDMS- Document Management System: Module has been updated with the various important documents and office records e.g., employees service books, office orders, MoUs etc.
