Ecology Laboratory
Division of Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation is equipped with a wide range of scientific instruments – e.g. CHNS Elementar, KELl - Plus Nitrogen Estimation System, Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, pH meter, Electrical conductivity meter. These instruments are used for estimation of Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium etc. in soil and plant samples.v

Forest Protection Laboratory
Forest Protection Laboratory is equipped with Microscope Nikon E400, PCR (Bench top), Electrophoresis (Bench top), Gel-Doc (Protein Simple), Microscope (LMI 3003276A) Leedz micra XZ-150wA-cold Light Illuminator, Insect Activity Recorder, Laminar Flow, BOD Incubator, Innoculation Chamber, Autoclaves, Insect/Borer Rearing Chamber.
Agroforestry and NWFP Laboratory
The Laboratory is equiped with PMR Porometer, Soxhlet apparatus with heating system, Relascope, Centrifuge, Muffle Furnace, Clinometer, Soil Respiration Chamber, Soil Temperature Probe, Lux Meter, Soil Moisture Meter, Bulk Density Core, Altimeter etc.
Seed Technology Laboratory
Seed Technology Laboratory is equipped with Thermo-Hygrometer, Digital Seed Moisture Meter, Hot Air Oven, Sealing Machine, Refrigerator, Electrical Conductivity Meter, pH Meter, Electronic Balance, Seed Grader, Specific Gravity Separator with Surge Bin and Elevator, Seed Germinator (Double Door), Seed Drier, Seed Blower, Electrophoresis assembly, Power Supply, Infra Red Thermometer, Fume hood, Deionizer, Magnetic Stirrer,Water Re- Circulator, Extraction Plate, Soxhlet Apparatus, Pressure Chamber, UV Vis Spectrophotometer, Multi Chamber Cooling Cabinet, Portable Photosynthesis System, Plant Canopy Analyzer etc.
Herbarium
The herbarium has approximately 7400 plant specimen sheets mounted as per standard procedures. The plant specimens covered include approximately 1085 species belonging to 136 families. The herbarium is providing identification facilities to the students, research scholars and researchers of other research organizations.
Library
The Institute has an excellent collection of forestry related Books, Journals and other relevant literature. The detail of collection is given below:

Video Conferencing
Videoconference facilities between HFRI, ICFRE/ Institutes and other organizations for research, administrative and management purposes are available. The videoconference room is well furnished and is being used frequently for various interactive meetings with national and international delegations. It comfortably accommodates about 15 participants.
Conference Facilities
A fully functional and well equipped conference hall has been developed for organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings and other institutional or external events. It is a well furnished facility with the institute which may comfortably accommodate about 70 participants. The other organizations/ departments also avail this facility with the prior approval of the competent authority and payment of Rs 5000 per day.
MD Chaturvedi Training Complex & Interpretation Centre
Institute has also a multipurpose training complex. The other organizations/ departments also avail this facility with the prior approval of the competent authority and payment of Rs 5000 per day (Exception: State Forest Department, Government of Himachal Pradesh).
